Illustrating: from storyboard to picture book

Kunstenaar-coach: Jan De Kinder

Visual studio

Atelier in Dutch

How do you translate your story into images? What about the text with that? The interaction between image and word? What do you tell, what not? How do you allow the unconscious and chance into your story?

We experiment with different drawing techniques and test our limits. The emphasis is on creating and less on finished results. In this way we try to arrive at a storyboard and a number of isolated illustrations for a picture book. We work analogously. The pleasure of drawing and writing is always paramount. Drawing experience is not necessary, authenticity and the desire to dare to draw are.
